SUSTAINABILITY STARTS WITH YOU
Why Divestment:
Divestment is a powerful action to remove the social and political freedom fossil fuel companies currently have to profit off climate change with no consequences. It does not aim to financially harm the companies, but take away the political and social licenses they have to function without due scrutiny. By divesting, Pomona College affirms its commitment to economic and social justice and environmental sustainability taking a stand against climate change and companies whose business is to profit off climate destruction, often with disproportionate impacts on low income and minority communities. As a powerful liberal arts college educating the future world leaders, Pomona has the responsibility to use its money to work for a strong future and lead others in changing the political climate and social options that lead to devastating climate change.
